I have always enjoyed historical fiction. Sure, it's escapism, but you can also learn a lot of history and enjoy yourself at the same time. When I was a teenager I got my start reading James Michener and Kenneth Roberts (he wrote a lot more than Northwest Passage). Over the years I've enjoyed everything written by Bernard Cornwell, Jeff Shaara, and all of WEB Griffin's military series. We can also throw in some Tom Clancy and Larry McMurtry, along with many others. But there's an adage that tells us to write the books you'd like to read. So with that in mind, I write fiction that I hope will be a fun, fast-paced, and entertaining read, set in a realistic historical setting.
The Jack Bell World War II NovelsWorld War II action set in the European Theater. Lieutenant Jack Bell is a member of the 509th Parachute Infantry Battalion, the first airborne unit to jump into combat during WWII. Jack just wants to fight the war, but it seems that every time his unit of paratroopers deploys to a combat operation, the mysterious OSS man, Colonel Thomas Addington, appears with another secret mission for Lieutenant Bell. Each novel is inspired by, and set in one of the combat deployments of the 509th PIB during WII.
Jack, with the help of his crack-shot platoon sergeant, Roland “Rube” Roubideaux, and the rest of the I & R Platoon, must help to achieve their battalion’s combat objectives while also completing their assigned OSS mission. Blowing up bridges behind the lines, rescuing scientists from the Nazis, or breaking up black market operations would be just another day in the war for these paratroopers.
The Jack Bell WWII Novels are available on Amazon in Print, on Kindle, or in Kindle Unlimited.
Work in Progress
The Jack Bell series continues. "The Champagne Campaign" will be the sixth novel in the series and will be released in early 2025. The book picks up right where "Operation Dragoon" leaves off. The Geronimos liberate Cannes and Nice, before moving into a screen along the French Alps. It should be easy: Run patrols, man defensive positions, and keep the enemy from making incursions over the mountains from northern Italy. Unfortunately, that’s exactly what a group of motivated Germans do. Can Jack and Rube outsmart and outfight the German mountain troops? We’ll find out in the sixth Jack Bell adventure: The Champagne Campaign.
